Manu Bhaker - India's new shooting sensation, who has been all over the news for few days by clinching a gold medal in women's 10m air pistol event at 2018 Commonwealth Games. It's her maiden CWG appearance and she is mere 16 years old. She has already made history when she won the gold medal at the International Shooting Sports Federation (ISSF) World Cup in Guadalajara, Mexico last month and became India's youngest shooter to win a World Cup gold. She had achieved so much in the young age and as she said its just my beginning.

Professional Career
Manu Bhakar is multi-talented when it comes to sports, the reason behind that is, before she decided to make her sports career in the shooting, she has already played few other sports like Manipuri martial art, boxing, tennis, and skating and winning medals at national level.

But one day when Bhakar came to her house with a swollen lip which she got from her particular boxing session, her mother suggested her to change her career.

In the year, 2016, she came to a conclusion that she will make shooting her profession. She started practicing shooting at her school (Universal Senior Secondary school) in Goriya Village, which is the only place in her district, with a shooting range. The distance between her home and a shooting range is more than 20 km but her passion and dedication towards her choosing profession had always motivated her to pursue her goal. She was trained for almost five hours a day.

Manu Bhaker Coach
Manu Bhaker is trained under her coach Jaspal Rana, who was appointed as chief coach for junior pistol shooters by the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI).

Jaspal won three gold medal in his career (all of them in Asian games). He has groomed young shooters, including Manu and Deswal over the last one year.

Here is what he said after Bhaker clinch gold:

It’s an important win for Manu. Even Yashaswini was in contention for the medal and I am happy for the shooters. Manu is mentally very strong. I remember that when she joined the national camp, her mother told me that she talks a lot. She is always asking questions about the sport. But I am happy to answer them. She is not in the TOPS scheme but we need to groom talented shooters like her for the 2020 Olympics,” Rana
